Corrective maintenance restores a failed machine. Preventative maintenance reduces the number of failures. For ATM fleets, that distinction is operational, not semantic: every unplanned visit is cost, downtime, and a customer who could not complete a transaction.

What preventative work covers

Cleaning, mechanical inspection, consumables, firmware currency, and verification of sensors and locks. The exact list depends on the machine and the environment, but the principle is the same: service the wear points before they become incidents.

Telemetry makes the schedule honest

A machine that is already reporting rising jam rates or declining cassette health should not wait for the next generic visit. Preventative plans work best when they can be pulled forward by data.
