Telemetry is not a marketing term. It is a set of signals a terminal emits about itself: I am online. My cassette is low. A door opened. A module jammed. A connection dropped.
Attributes of useful telemetry
- Attributed to a specific machine
- Time-stamped
- Resistant to spoofing
- Frequent enough to be operational
- Sparse enough not to drown the operators
From raw signals to operations
Raw events need rules. A brief network blip is not the same as an hour of silence. A door open during a scheduled service window is not the same as a door open at 03:00. Telemetry becomes valuable when it is interpreted.
